Convert your Network-Specific EDGE/3G Modem to a Universal Modem

It is not uncommon to find many people being frustrated with their network-specific 3G modems as such modems do not let you use another network’s sim-card in it, as the modem’s are locked to the particular network in which you bought it from.

In such scenario’s where the network you are tied to is down, it takes you down with it as you cannot but wait till the network is back up.

However, I am ready and willing to unlock all such modems for free to enable them work with any network’s sim-card, irrespective of the network it was initially tied to.

To enable me unlock your modem for free, kindly let me have your modem’s IMEI number and ‘Modem Type’ by dropping them in the comments section of this post.

Example: IMEI – 11111111111111111 Modem Type: E161, E166, E169….

I would respond, by giving you an unlock code. Use the steps below to know how to insert your unlock code to unlock your device to all networks;

  1. Insert a different network sim card into the modem and plug into your PC.
  2. It would request an unlock code.
  3. Enter the unlock code I have given you.

      • This is built in 3G modem that comes with a LG Laptop x120, so those are the references i found for the modem. You help will be to much apprecieted.

  34. I’ve tried several unlock codes and now it doesn’t ask for any unlock codes anymore. It just just says, “Use only the sim specified”. What can I do?

      • See Eta, I really need to use this modem. It’s a brand new modem. What about if I enable pin verification, won’t it work for it? Please try all you can to help me unlock this data card. MTN inernet service is bullshit.

      • Since you have tried guessing the unlock code too many times of which were all wrong and now you do not see the unlock option anymore. The only solution now is to use a software to crack it

  38. I observed that my modem unlock code dialogue box (ok) doesnt highlight untill the digits are upto 16. Meanwhile, the digits, as you know, are far less than that.

    Pls help me. My ZTE Etisalat IMEI is 867364001064890 and Model is MF 180.

I do trust ur judgement and i believe u will help me out on this. i want to be browsing free on my glo line, or any network you can help me with. Since my glo modem is now a universal modem i will get a sim of the config and setting u send to me, but in all i will appreciate if it the glo netpro free browsing software and installation procedure u sent.

        Thanks so much for your assistance but the code isn’t recognisable. Apparently, it has to be 16 digits because when I typed the 8 digits into the unlock dialogue box, the ‘ok’ was not highlighted. So I entered the code twice bringing the total digits to 16, the ‘ok’ got higlighted but it said ‘wrong code’. Please help as I really need this modem unlocked.

  163. Could you help me on how to unlock Alcatel OT X220S-2DRGMG3-R? It is from Orange Madagascar and there is no option to insert “network code” nor something like this in the software. The only software bundled with it is “Orange Internet everywhere”. Is there anyway to install another software/driver for it?

    • Your unlock code is 48913526. Kindly insert a sim card of a different network aside Airtel into your modem. It should then request for an unlock code when you insert the modem back into your computer. At this point, kindly insert the unlock code above. If it does not ask you for an unlock code after doing this, then it means that your modem is not locked and all you need do is to put in any network’s sim card of your choice and then configure the internet settings of whichever network you insert, and you would be good to go.

      • If your modem is an MTN modem and you have an MTN sim in it, you will have to remove the MTN sim and insert another network’s sim card and then plug the modem back to you computer. It will then request for the ‘unlock code’.

        In summary, simply remove the sim belonging to the modem and insert the sim card of another network.
